Does PNG to AVIF keep transparency?
Yes. AVIF carries a full alpha channel, exactly like PNG, so transparent logos, icons, illustrations, and stickers convert cleanly without a white box appearing behind them.
AVIF actually handles transparency more cleverly than most formats: in lossy mode, it stores the alpha channel separately from the color data, so a logo with a soft drop shadow can be compressed hard while the edge of the shadow stays clean. JPEG can't do that at all, and PNG can only match it with a much bigger file.

Lossless vs lossy: which should you pick?
This choice matters more for PNG to AVIF than for most conversions, because the right answer depends on what's in the image.
